Harbour scores 36 to spark camarillo past agoura

Wednesday’s matchup of Camarillo High’s David Harbour and Agoura’s Sean Martin, two of the area’s finest perimeter gunners, could have been billed as the Shootout at the Camarillo Corral.

But the gym became big enough for only one sharpshooter 14 minutes into the contest when Martin, who entered the game averaging 31 points, sustained a left ankle injury and did not return.

Despite the loss of Martin, who was taken to a local hospital for X-rays at halftime, Agoura kept its composure until the final moments of an 87-73 loss in the Marmonte League opener for

both schools. Martin, a senior who was a Times second-team All-Valley selection last season, had scored only seven points and Agoura trailed, 43-31, when he went down during a drive down the

middle of the lane with 3 minutes 12 seconds left in the first half. Agoura (6-3 overall) promptly scored nine unanswered points and pulled within three, 43-40, with 1:34 left in the half.

“I told our kids when Martin got hurt that (the Chargers) were going to rise to the occasion,” Camarillo Coach Mike Prewitt said. “We kind of had a letdown because we had geared everything

to stop Martin.” Agoura’s Dennis Fowler, who entered the game averaging just six points, picked up the scoring slack with 15 points in the second quarter--including three three-point

baskets. But Camarillo (7-2) was one up in the sharpshooter department, namely the Stanford-bound Harbour. A 6-3 senior who entered the game averaging 25.2 points, Harbour scored nine points

in a two-minute span of the third quarter that extended Camarillo’s lead to 57-47. When Agoura pulled within nine at 72-63 with six minutes left, Harbour scored five points during a 6-1 run

that put the game out of reach, 78-64, with 4:10 left. He finished with 36 points despite a seven-for-16 effort from the line. Agoura surely didn’t help itself in the final 4 1/2 minutes,
