91-year-old woman dies after a174 crash

A pensioner has sadly died following a crash on the A174. The 91-year-old woman lost her life after her Ford C-Max car collided with a tree. The lady and her husband were on the eastbound

carriageway near to the slip lane from Coulby Newham and Hemlington, when the single-vehicle collision occurred on Wednesday, June 4. The woman's 88-year-old husband was taken to James

Cook University Hospital with chest injuries. ”Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this sad time,” A Cleveland Police spokesperson said. The A174 was closed for a number

of hours between the junctions of Stainton and Marton. Emergency services were called to the scene around 12.20pm and at the time a force spokesperson said: "The A174 eastbound is

currently closed between the junctions of Stainton and Marton following a single-vehicle collision. "Emergency services are currently at the scene and drivers are being urged to avoid

the area whilst the incident is dealt with. Thank you for your patience." A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic incident on A174 near

Coulby Newham in Middlesbrough this afternoon (June 4) at 12.21pm. We dispatched one ambulance crew to the incident." Police officers are appealing for witnesses, and those with dashcam
